The company in charge of managing the state’s home health care program has a new leader.

The Times Union reports that Public Partnerships LLC has hired a new CEO.

Vince Coppola handed over the reins to Miki Kapoor in the last few months.

This news comes as the state Legislature is set to host a public hearing next month to discuss how New York has handled the transition to one single company overseeing the health care program.

Many health workers and lawmakers criticized the decision to give PPL total oversight, and there have been a number of reported problems, including delayed paychecks and benefits.

The paper reported that the Coppola was already planning to leave before PPL took over the CDPAP program.

The new CEO is an operating partner at a private equity firm which owns about 20% of PPL.

Caring Majority Rising, which is a coalition of older and disabled New Yorkers, family caregivers and home care workers, issued a statement on the change, saying “no amount of leadership change can fix PPL’s fundamental incompetence.”

“PPL has proven it cannot deliver basic services like paying workers or enrolling consumers – because they only care about extracting profits, not providing quality care. That will never change, regardless of who sits in the C-suite.

It’s time to hit reverse on this failed contract and finally start demanding real accountability from this train wreck of a company. Every day we delay means more suffering for the hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers PPL continues to abandon.”

PPL issued a statement to NewsChannel 13 in response.

Supporting CDPAP consumers and personal assistants across New York State remains PPL’s top priority – and that will not change as our leadership team evolves. Our recent broad-scale survey of 52,000 respondents speak to this successful transition process for the majority of consumers and PAs, with an overall satisfaction rating of 4 out of 5.

“Over the past several years, PPL has undergone a thoughtful leadership evolution to support the company’s growth and long-term viability. Vince Coppola joined PPL three years ago to establish the company as an independent entity from its former parent organization, as well as prepare the company for expansion. Having achieved these goals, Vince executed on a planned transition of the CEO role to Miki Kapoor. Miki has long served as an engaged member of PPL’s board and played a key role in the company’s acquisition, having worked closely with our leadership team behind the scenes. We are excited to see him step into this expanded role.”
